โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)

1

Set Bench Height and Form the Curved Hand Shape

Sit on the front half of your bench with feet flat on the floor and your spine straight. Rest your right hand on your knee, letting your fingers naturally curve as if holding a tennis ball or an apple. Lift your hand to keyboard level while preserving that relaxed curve, keeping your wrist floating level with the keyboard.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Fingertips make contact with keys using the fleshy pads, not flat finger surfaces.
  • โ€ข Wrists are elevated level with forearms without collapsing downward.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Collapsing the knuckles inward (flat fingers).
  • โ€ข Resting the base of the palms or wrists directly against the wooden key slip.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Never let your wrists sag below key level; sagging creates sharp tendon angles that cause strain.
2

Locate Middle C and Number Your Fingers

Find the grouping of two black keys near the center of the keyboard directly in front of you. Middle C is the white key immediately to the left of these two black keys. Assign standard piano fingering to your right hand: 1 for thumb, 2 for index, 3 for middle, 4 for ring, and 5 for pinky.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Right thumb (finger 1) rests lightly on Middle C.
  • โ€ข Each consecutive finger rests over one consecutive white key (D, E, F, G).
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Mistaking the note before a three-black-key cluster (F) for Middle C.
  • โ€ข Using finger 2 (index) instead of finger 1 (thumb) on the root note.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep your non-playing fingers resting gently on key tops rather than clenching them into a tight fist.
3

Form and Strike the C Major Triad (C-E-G)

Position finger 1 (thumb) on Middle C, finger 3 (middle) on E, and finger 5 (pinky) on G, skipping D and F. Press all three keys down simultaneously using arm weight rather than finger poking. Hold the chord for four slow counts, listening for an even, balanced sound across all three tones.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Keys C, E, and G descend and sound at the exact same instant.
  • โ€ข Fingers 2 and 4 hover relaxed just above keys D and F without pressing down.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Flamming notes where one finger lands a split-second earlier than the others.
  • โ€ข Pressing down finger 2 or 4 accidentally alongside the chord tones.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Use the drop of your forearm weight to press keys rather than tensing finger joints.
4

Shift Hand to Form the A Minor Triad (A-C-E)

Lift your hand slightly and shift your entire hand position five white keys to the right until finger 1 rests on A. Place finger 1 on A, finger 3 on C, and finger 5 on E. Press all three keys together smoothly to produce the darker, melancholic harmony of an A minor triad.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Hand maintains the exact same triad claw shape (finger 1-3-5 spacing) shifted over A-C-E.
  • โ€ข All three notes ring out clearly without buzzing or deadened sound.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Changing finger spacing and mistakenly pressing B instead of C with finger 3.
  • โ€ข Stretching the wrist sideways rather than moving the whole forearm laterally.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Move your elbow and forearm to guide your hand to new keys; do not bend the wrist sideways.
5

Shift Hand to Form the G Major Triad (G-B-D)

Shift your hand down one key to the left so finger 1 aligns directly over G (the note immediately to the left of A). Place finger 1 on G, finger 3 on B, and finger 5 on D. Depress all three notes simultaneously with a clean, confident drop of the forearm.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Thumb lands on G, middle finger on B, pinky on D.
  • โ€ข Chord tone sounds bright and fully resonant across all three pitches.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Dropping the pinky onto C instead of D.
  • โ€ข Collapsing the pinky finger joint flat against the key surface.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep the pinky standing on its tip pad to prevent hyper-extending the knuckle joint.
6

Practice 4-Beat Transitions Between Chords

Play the C major chord and count out loud: '1, 2, 3, 4'. On beat 4, gently release and hover your hand over the A minor chord position, striking A minor on the next '1'. Repeat this cycle moving from C major to A minor, then to G major, and back to C major in a steady, unbroken rhythm.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Hand moves to the next chord shape in the air before landing on beat 1.
  • โ€ข Rhythm remains steady without long pauses between chord changes.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Waiting until beat 1 to start looking for the next chord position.
  • โ€ข Speeding up on familiar chords and slowing down on transitions.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Take a 2-minute break if you feel any burning or tension in the top of your forearm.
